Save all your vital stuff, pics, music, etc. onto a disk or flash drive.

Right click your hard drive's name, choose format.

Pop in the windows 98 disk and install. Easy.I would like to replace my operatingy system that is windows xp for windows 98. How can I do that?
I think Win 98 should be a last resort.

First, try a scan for spyware, viruses and other malware. Those can suck up a lot of system resources.

Look online for any fine tuning info you can find for XP.

Third, from what I've read, XP and other Windows OSes can get bogged down after a while and may require a re-installation to get working right.

Fourth, if none of those work, try Linux. Download a live CD from Ubuntu or Kubuntu and give it a test drive before deciding whether or not to install it. Unless you have any Windows applications that you MUST have, you might be better off. Of course, you'll have to store your personal files on a CD, DVD or other medium if you want them later.I would like to replace my operatingy system that is windows xp for windows 98. Just make sure that you use 98 SE. The first 98 was pretty unstable.I would like to replace my operatingy system that is windows xp for windows 98. How can I do that?
I'm not really sure as to why you'd want to go backwards and use Windows 98. If I were you I would buy a computer that can handle Windows XP (which aren't hard to find).I would like to replace my operatingy system that is windows xp for windows 98. How can I do that?
Well first off you will need to have all your hard-drive partitions formated into FAT32 format, as windows 98 doesn't recognize NTFS partitions. You will want to backup the data you want to keep on CDs/DVDs etc, because all data will be lost when formatting. You'll need a bootable Win98 CD or a bootable floppy and run fdisk.exe from it (to boot from a cd you need to set your cd-rom above your harddrive in the boot priority list of your BIOS. after you do that initiate the command line mode).

When in ms-dos you are usually given a screen like %26quot;C:\%26quot;.

some ms-dos commands:

cd %26lt;folder name%26gt; (without %26quot;%26lt;%26gt;%26quot;) = enter the specified folder

cd.. = go 1 step up in folders

dir = shows a list of files and folders in your current location

dir/p = same as above but now u can view by screens, assuming the list exceeds yours.

a: = takes you to your floppy drive (in general %26lt;drive letter%26gt; followed by %26quot;:%26quot; takes you to the specified drive)

After you format your HDD fdisk all you have to do is boot your win98 cd and start setup

hope this was useful :)
