How big a job is changing the operating system on a PC? And will I loose everything installed in doing so?

I'm looking at changing Vista to Windows 7

Thanks :)How big a job is changing the operating system on a PC? And will I loose everything installed in doing so?
Well there are two ways to handle installing Windows 7.

The first one is to do a clean install. This will delete everything on your hard drive, including all Documents, Music, Programs. In the case you will need to save all you files to either a external hard drive or copy them to a large USB Flash Drive or burn them to CDs or DVDs.

The second is do just an upgrade. This will only copy over your operating system, but will keep all your files and programs.

While the first one seems harder it is the best way to go. The reason I say this, is that if you have a virus, malware or spyware they will be deleted when you format th hard drive and gives you a clean and stable hard drive. Just like a new computer.

PS: Make sure to install a new anti-virus program if you choose to do a clean install. How big a job is changing the operating system on a PC? And will I loose everything installed in doing so?
Its not that hard, as long as you have the right requirements. If you dont know whether your processor can handle it, send me a message with all your computer specs and I will tell you whether it will or not.

Yes, you will loose everything so I reccomend backing everything up.How big a job is changing the operating system on a PC? And will I loose everything installed in doing so?
when changing vista to 7, you can go for upgrade which will keep you files and your programs. on the other hand, you can make a clean installation and have a dual-boot system. it means that you can choose which system to run. you should also run upgrade advisor. link is down in the source. just download it and run.
