I bought my XP Laptop in the USA about one and a half year ago and tried to change the language to German ever since. It was in vain. Forget about changing it. Most versions of Windows XP are localised, i.e. they are sold with only one language support for most things (buttons, helptext, etc). If you bought your copy of XP from MSDN or got it through volume licensing (i.e. for a business) then you may have the MultiLingual User Interface pack and will be able to change it via control panel.

Try Start/control Panel/Regional and Language options

You can change the region and language.

BTW the key board letters. are they in English ?

This also will need change if in german.

If the window appears in german get assitance

mine is English U.S

Warning : Suddenly my XP shifted to arabic and i could not revert

to english. Finally I had to reboot XP and do updates etc.

Get help from an experienced user.
