How do i fix my laptop, I've been told its a hard drive failure but i dont believe it... please help?

I've had my laptop for a year and 11 days and now I'm experiencing problems with it... Following whenever my computer is fully shutdown. It loads all the way up to my windows vista log on screen, then when i type in my user name and password it goes to a black screen all I can see is my mouse courser.

What I have been doing is going into task manager, making it browse a new task and load my desktop. It then starts to load everything almost immediately after this.

Please help, I've tried system restore and I have tried calling HP. The system restore didn't change anything and as far as HP goes, lets say I'm ready to buy a mac next time.

I'm 11 days off warranty so they don't want to help me and say I should send it in for service, landing me with a $400 bill plus the $40 for the telephone call.

I have also ran a full comprehensive scan of my hard drive and its coming back as good.

I'm lost and this problem is way out of my understanding so any help would be appreciated.

I am considering re-installing windows vista or even changing operating systems completely. Is this a good idea??How do i fix my laptop, I%26039;ve been told its a hard drive failure but i dont believe it... please help?
Yes re-install Vista! The reason I suggest this is because it sounds more like software rather than hardware problems! By re-installing Vista you are leaving no room for error, so if after re-install you still have issues then yes you may have hardware problems but at least up to that point it's cost you Zero! If your laptop still needs to be looked at then I suggest that instead of sending it to HP have a local guy take a look! In the UK that would cost about 拢30 so I suppose that's about $50 in the States! Good Luck. How do i fix my laptop, I%26039;ve been told its a hard drive failure but i dont believe it... please help?

Hmmm... It might actually be a hardware problem. Actually, you should try and delete your System32 folder, it's located under windows and has a bunch of unusable items that can often be the downfall of many brand new and old computers. its also where viruses usually attach themselves too, since most of these files aren't scanned. It works a lot like a cache folder. go To C:/windows/System32 and delete it. It will renew itself the next time you reboot.

My Acer laptop was doing that the other day. The next day it was fine. Are you running an antivirus and is it up to date? If you think the HDD is failing, you should run the Drive Fitness Test by Hitachi. You can make a bootable CD and it will scan the sectors of the drive. It can be downloaded here: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/do
