Do Linux Operating System is free software?

Many people say Linux is free operating system but when I see a website, it said install Linux operating system have to used CDs to install, but those have PRICE,so I suspect that the Linux operating system is free is a lie, another who can tell me the Linux operating system in the end is not free .How to install the Linux operating system, is to download? Buy or installation CD-ROM (if the installation is to buy CDs, the Linux operating system is free is a lie) (because I think like a loss, free software is not only free but also change their system functions) of a Linux operating system without the most practical business industry color (the premise is all over the world have released version) how it made a Linux operating system?Do Linux Operating System is free software?
You have to understand that Linux is an operating system. It has become a community project of sorts, whereby people are always extending its capabilities. It is in fact free in some contexts and NOT free in others. What most companies are selling is not the Linux OS per se, but manuals, a nifty box, support, install CDs, etc. So, depending on who you look to for your Linux install and how you choose to install it, it can in fact be free.

I did a quick google search and grabbed this link for you:

There are tons of others. Browse for awhile, read over some of the material, and make an informed decision about what you want to do.Do Linux Operating System is free software?
Crikey - no it is not a lie ok nothing is absolutely free - this is costing me stuff as I have to pay for my computer, the software that runs on it and my internet account

With linux you do not have to pay for the software, in your %26quot;argument%26quot; you are just paying for the media (i.e. the CD)

Whether you consider it free or not it is up to you but it is certainly cheaper than purchasing windowsDo Linux Operating System is free software?
Most distributions provide free .iso images. Download those and burn to CD or DVD.

For example, if you wanted to download the .iso images for Ubuntu, you'd go to http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

When organization sell CDs with their distribution on it, that's one of the ways they make money. They don't make alot.Do Linux Operating System is free software?
You see, Linux is a broad term of operating systems. The Linux Kernel (the main code of Linux) is indeed free, but

people then make it the way they want and sell it, or give it away for free.

People may sell it for corporate use, or post it as a free CD image online that someone can download to a physical CD, or order them online for a cost, or even for free.

If you want to try a free CD of Linux, try Ubuntu Linux at www.ubuntu.com. You can download it or get CDs shipped for free.

If someone you know already has the cds you can copy them or just use them for free.

when you buy a product like windows, you are buying more than an operating system, the system is the platform, it comes with other software that also makes up the total cost of the product your buying.

many different linux based distributions come with extra software, which is also free but have nothing to do with linux. linux is just the platform and it is free.Do Linux Operating System is free software?
it is free if you download and burn the ISO images to your own CD. Also when you order the Cd's you have to pay for the Cd's plus shipping and handling. they would lose money if they sent Cd's without charging.

Another reason is Linux is what you call open source, but people put there hard earned time to creating these free programs so some sites ask for that as a donation.

The only time to question it is if they are charging a very high price. unless you are trying to buy the damn small Linux which you can buy for 60 dollars (but it includes a 1GB flash drive)
