How Will Changing My Current Operating System Effect The Info I Have Already Saved On My Computer????

Hello everyone....i want to change my computer operating system. I currently have %26quot;Microsoft 2003 Student Edition%26quot; installed on my computer. I want to buy and install %26quot;Microsoft XP Professional%26quot; on my computer. I need to know two things: 1) When I install XP Professional, will it write over my current operating system (I would like it if it did so that I wouldn't have any trouble un-installing it)? 2) Will all the data that is currently saved on my computer be safe?

i would greatly appreciate anyone's help and any additional advise concerning this too...How Will Changing My Current Operating System Effect The Info I Have Already Saved On My Computer????
i have been told that we need to put all on a disc that we are sure we want saved before adding another program or cleaning out your system...i am currently doing this...but i am going to buy a whold new set up for myself for christmas...and i will add what i want kept from this computer to a disc, which i have already started and then put it on the other one...they do not promise when computer techs do this that all you want like pictures and things can be saved....you have to watch who you get to work on your computer to...i have windows xp professional and there was this one computer tech was suppose to be fixing the media player and he put a compact disc in here...that is another reason i am getting rid of this one...i took this to a regular man in a shop that does this for a living and he thought i should just buy a whole new system...a computer tech is suppose to upgrade not downgrade...honestly who can you trust....money money money is all they wantHow Will Changing My Current Operating System Effect The Info I Have Already Saved On My Computer????
