Is it safe to change Windows Operating systems and how would I do it?

I currently use Windows Vista and the reason I would like to downgrade to Windows XP is the amount of RAM and Resources Vista hogs. Another annoying problem is the incompatibility issues. You could almost call this an update and not a downgrade. But, it has to be called downgrade when your downgrading from Vista to a 2002 version of Windows.

Back to the question. I was wondering if it is a good idea to change from Vista to XP with my current computer and it's specifications. I have read about the requirements for XP... 64mb RAM (I have 447mb) 1.5 gigabyte hard drive (I have 160 gigabyte hard drive) 1.5ghz (I have 3.00ghz) So all the recommended requirements for XP have already been confirmed that they will run perfectly. But what about XP's Components? My main, direct question is... Does XP have the right components and things necessary to run my computer properly or will my computer miss out of some of the components and stuff up? Sure, there is windows updates. But there is only so much a 2002 version of Windows can update.

I will include some of my computer specifications and see if it helps you, help me.

Intel Pentium 4

3.00 GHZ

160gig of Hard Drive

447 MB of Ram

HP Pavillion a5020a (my computer - look it up if need be)

I don't know what else would help you. But, if you have a HP you might have had a past experience of the same thing as me.

Another thing, how would I go about it? With all my concerns and worries XP might not work with my machine. How would I go back to Vista incase of an error. And how would I also uninstall Vista and Install XP or would it over-ride itself?

Thanks, please help me with this issue because Windows Vista is incompatible with everything and I have wasted a $100 printer because it isn't compatible. Is it safe to change Windows Operating systems and how would I do it?
i have downgraded all my pcs from vista to xp as it is much better and faster.

look in your device manager and write down all the major hardware components that you have in your pc (network card, sound card, video card etc..) then find xp drivers for them, because the number one problem for downgrading to xp is that you need to find drivers for those devices, once you do that then you can safely downgrade.

also look for information on installing xp with your specific pc, there should be tons of information online with people trying to downgrade and the problems that they run into, sometimes people even post links to all the drivers that you need for your pc to downgrade to xp, i find that information very useful.
