If your system is that old....Replace it. You can buy a Dell Vostro 200 with XP for less than $300.

Otherwise, the obvious answer is make sure you have the minimum requirements to run XP and go buy a copy of XP Retail version. Rancid is incorrect in the recommendation for OEM XP. It is designed for Fresh build systems and is not designed for upgrading an OS. Hence Original Equipment ManufacturerHow do I change my operating system from Windows ME to XP?

Save changes.

Then start your computer and stick in the cd which would be xp. and hit enter. Then it will ask if you want to upgrade or full install. Then you go from their. How do I change my operating system from Windows ME to XP?

You can get an upgrade disc from Microsoft. You might be able to download it directly from them. However you get it, make sure you get an upgrade disc, not a full installation (it will be cheaper, and it should save all of your previous data) If you are using a machine that has ME on it, don't be tempted to move to Vista. Chances are, your hardware won't run it. Make sure to back up your files onto a thumb drive or external drive or cd before doing so...just in case. If you do decide to buy an upgrade disc here's a good place to buy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16837116196
