How can i change the operating system of my pc?

i want to keep my original files. ang original settingsHow can i change the operating system of my pc?
It depends on what you have now and what you want to get.

For instance, I upgraded from Windows 98SE to Windows XP Home. I used an upgrade package and kept all my files and settings.

Other than that, I don't anticipate being able to keep your files, etc. Sorry. How can i change the operating system of my pc?
You can't. The files can be kept, but it's tricky and if it's a new OS, they'll probably be gone...You could however do a dual boot setup. I can help you with that if you want. How can i change the operating system of my pc?
Need more info....

What do you have now and what do you want to install.?

Assuming you have Windows 98 now and you want to install xp, it will coexist on two diff. drives but not on the same unless you partition it. This is because 98 is FAT file system and XP is NTFS file system. XP will read your old files, no problems.

To partition, go to Mycomputer -%26gt;disk manage and go from there........or, go to help file and get step by step instructions under create partition.

Or, try Partition Magic. It is very smooth.

If you partition, you will be into a dual boot option. Everytime you start the computer, it will present you with an option which os you want to use.

If you just drop in your XP, it will erase old files, reformat to NTFS. If you want that, back up old files and just install XP. It will read all your old files without problem.
