Because of the way Microsoft sells it's Operating Systems, you're almost forced to purchase it on the retail market and you can easily find it at places like Staples. The only other way that I could suggest is by taking the computer to a repair shop (which always has Microsoft Certified Techs) and have them to load the new OS for you. get a pirate disc from e-bay. check your resources will run it. Be aware that if you go online a lot, Microsoft will detect the copied software and flag your system with a 'counterfit copy' warning. If you can live with that popping up, problem solved. Don't like the linux option. Still too complicated to get running perfectly, too many device driver issues on less common devices, and not enough decent games. First problem - XP is a commercial product, you need to pay for it.
Second problem - An old machine is going to struggle to run it.
Third problem - If it will run XP it's unlikely to run the games well.
Solution - Install a lightweight version of Linux and everything's free.
