I doubt this caused a virus to vista

Vista uses something called UAC which essentually controls users. No user is a TRUE administrator and that was the start of your problem

It is possible to shut off UAC which is what I have done...go here to learn how

Windows 7 is not free... you will need to purchase an upgrade. It is better than vista but it also uses UAC, so you ought to learn about this before mucking aboutHow to change my operating system?

Vista does not have a virus in it. Millions of people use Vista and are content with it.

Your idea to dump Vista for another OS simply because your computer got a virus is like crushing your car because it ran out of gasHow to change my operating system?
Run Vista in safe mode. Install Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php - and let it run to completion. Then you'll be able to run Vista normally.

Then download and install Avast - http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast- and keep it running to avoid virus problems.

(Downloading a %26quot;free%26quot; copy of Windows 7 is a great way to get a virus or 10. If you want 7, if your computer is eligible for the free upgrade, see whether Toshiba is still taking applications - they were supposed to be made by January. If not, you'll have to buy the upgrade.

As far as the message you're getting, post the EXACT message - in computers, where one letter makes a lot of difference, posting your interpretation of an error message is useless.)
