Yes, u can make a dual boot but i dont think u have to give preference to VISTA its lot of space consuming thing, but its ur wish.
The following things u have to consider to dual boot.
1. get 2 empty DVD's
2. in command prompt type RECOVERY, there u get a menu
3. take the recovery it takes some time it needs 2 dvds for recovery of vista , as the system is given to u preloaded, and u need this for ur dual boot
4. After this is done format the disk and during the XP installation format the partition with ntfs and make a partition for vista (30gb) and then install the XP in C:
5. Once Xp is done, insert the Vista DVD - 1 and restart the system.
6. Install the Vista in D:
