I have 2 operating systems on my PC, how do I change the config to boot from the OS on the C:?

Some time ago, I turned on my computer, and something came up saying couldn't start windows, missing file. So I used the recovery disc on my D drive, and then copied that file to my C. Problem now is when it starts, I have to choose which OS to start. So how can I get it to automatticaly start C, and then delete the OS on the D?I have 2 operating systems on my PC, how do I change the config to boot from the OS on the C:?
Easy task...just go to run, type msconfig, then ok. Under System Configuration Utility, under the tab BOOT.INI, there is a small window under which commands that execute at system boot are written. At the last line of these commands is your operating system command (something like multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WIND?Windows XP Professional%26quot;.....). You must have two of commands like this because you have two operating systems installed. So click on the operating system you want to load at startup and choose SET AS DEFAULT key given below.I have 2 operating systems on my PC, how do I change the config to boot from the OS on the C:?
Right click on My Computer, select Properties, click on Advanced tab, select Settings uner Startup and Recovery, click on the arrow and select the OS you want to boot automatically.

Is it possible to change a computers operating system from english to french.if yes how to do it.thanks?

i bought this laptop in usa and i m sending it to my brother who's english is so limited that he get confused when using an OS in englishIs it possible to change a computers operating system from english to french.if yes how to do it.thanks?
Unfortunately, you need the appropriate language of the OS. This can be gotten from MS (and sometimes their reseller) as an MUI (multi-lingual user interface). If you've got a subscription to MSDN then you will get one with your subscription, if not then you have to shell out a few more dollars to get it.

The regional settings will NOT do it. This only changes the default language of the keyboard input as well as the regional settings, such as currency and time setups.

Hope this helps.

I might be wrong but as far as I know you can't put XP over Vista. No problem the other way round that's an update / upgrade but the other way round is a downgrade and if your PC came with Vista as it's default operating system XP won't go in over it. I hope I am wrong for your sake because Vista is nothing but trouble from what I read on here.

Have a look at this it will help you along the way re: installing XP.

Easy to do but will all the hardware work? You will need XP versions of drivers for the particular motherboard, the graphics card and other add ons. I believe that there can be a particular problem if the hard drive is connected by SATA (Serial ATA) and not the older parallel connection. Here, it seems that you might not be able to load drivers for SATA to work, unless you have a floppy disk drive. You should really obtain a manual for the specific motherboard used. How hard is it to change a computer operating system?
The answers above are right to a point, but you will not install XP over Vista just like that.

Computer Tracking By Servers Or Websites?

I have installed several anti spyware programs very expensive and the best firewalls available and also use an annonomous proxy software that cost bigtime and also a hardware router with firewall and also surfing with proxy server online. I signed on a site and they knew what computer I was using. I have changed the processor the motherboard and also the hard drive and using all these things .I had completely different Id and password and they still knew what computer I was on.How are they doing this? Is there no privacy left in the world? I wasnt even doing anything wrong have no intentions to but this bothers me.How do they know who I am? Your computer has a unique IP address and only way to avoid the rest of the world seeing it is to use Proxies. I know people who use two and even one who uses nine. I think if you type Proxy in the green search (white window) box above you will learn a lot about how and which proxies to set up. Good luck.

To go from Vista to XP, you need a copy of XP with a valid key.

    The drivers you need are:

Graphics (from your gfx card company)

    Chipset Drivers

    Sound drivers

And then stuff like printer drivers. All other drivers are included in XP.

If you have a pre-made computer (non-custom built) then all you have to do is find it on the company site, and download the drivers from their support/downloads section.

What effect /changes will this have?I have a 64 bit operating system, how do I change my browser from 32 to 64?
Use the browser that came with your 64-bit machine. Most browsers are designed to work on either unless otherwise stated on the browser's website.

Firefox should work for you as my friend has 64-bit and I have 32-bit and we both downloaded from same link.

you can't run a 64bit operating system on a 32bit system mate you need to get a new motherboard for that 32bit is out of date 64 is the new technology system.I have a 64 bit operating system, how do I change my browser from 32 to 64?
Well, for a start you need a 64bit processor. If you have that then you need to download the 64bit version of whatever browser you have. Doing so would speed up operations as the processor will process twice the amount of information with each cycle.

Changing computer operating system from LINUX to WINDOWS?

I purchased an HP mini MI laptop from hp online and when i was selecting options i didnt realize that i wasnt getting windows os but Linux, ive had nothing but trouble with linux and want to install windows, my computer has no cd rom drive so i would have to download the program online, can this be done and how? could i do it myself or take it to best buys geek squad and let them deal with it?Changing computer operating system from LINUX to WINDOWS?
You need to buy a copy of Windows (which will set you back $200-$600) and you will need a USB CD/DVD drive (another $60-$100). With this you can install Windows. That being said you can ask the Geek Squad (or any Computer repair store) to install Windows for you (they should have a USB CD/DVD drive) but you will still have to buy a copy of Windows.

Depending on what version of Linux is on your laptop, you can get help to make it do what you need it to do. Linux is about choice, and you have more control and more options available to you with Linux then you do with Windows. In some cases all you need to do is move things around on your computer to make them more Windows like (so you know how to access them). You will see a performance hit on your laptop after you switch back (just so you know) but ultimately the choice is yours and you need to decide what your willing to live with.Changing computer operating system from LINUX to WINDOWS?
I would suggest buying an external disk drive to use then return after it has served its purpose. You have to have a physical bootable copy of the operating system to install it on a computer. From either a usb key or a disk. This is very difficult. However if you wanted to bring it to the geek squad they can do it. but you will be paying for the service and the operating system, which will be a couple hundred altogether.Changing computer operating system from LINUX to WINDOWS?
Hi, I have a lot of experience with Operating Systems, but I can best help you if you enable personal messages, this can be done by going to Edit My Preferences and selecting the box that allows people to email you.

We can get your problem fixed a lot cheaper then Geek squad can.Changing computer operating system from LINUX to WINDOWS?
buy a copy of windows + an external CD drive. windows wil cost you 200-300 $ depending on version and a dvd ecternal drive is about 100. an easier way to do it. is downloading usa-creator for linux and making a bootable linuxmint iso from ur usb. use linux mint instead of the mooblin or whatever linux came with ur device. i ahve been using linux for 4 years.Changing computer operating system from LINUX to WINDOWS?
If it is new, I would see if it can be returned and replaced with one that comes with Windows instead. Explain to them what happened and that you accidently chose the wrong Operating System. It doesn't hurt to ask. I really don't think you want to buy Windows and try to install it yourself. Even if you take it some where to install Windows, you will be paying for a new operating system and the cost of installing it.

  • Setting up a RAID 0 System?

I have a computer with XP Pro SP3. I have two 1.5TB drives I would like to set into a RAID system. Everytime I try it with my RAID card it only shows 137GB. How can I get it to RAID the drives so it shows all 3TB (I would not mind having to change operating systems, as long as it is windows). Thanks.Setting up a RAID 0 System?
You do understand that you are seriously playing with fire in RAID 0, right? I'm puzzled as to why you would want to. I won't ask why you would want 3 TB of HD, it's more a question of why you would want 3 contiguous TB of storage. With RAID 0 you need to be able to back up your data because if either drive fails, you are done. No recovery options. Nothing to do but format the good drive and call everything that was previously on the drives a complete loss. All that being said, I don't know why it's limiting you to 137 GB. I know that XP has a limit to how large a partition it's installation routine can create. Maybe that's where the problem lies.

Actionjksn: You do know that there are free partition tools and you don't need to download pirated software, right?Setting up a RAID 0 System?
Maybe your motherboard or RAID card doesn't support 3TB of memory. Simply, that is a lot of memory that many people won't even get to use. What kind of RAID card do you have? Maybe you should check others to see if they could support it. I'm not that experienced with Hard Drive RAID so I'm going to stop right here since I might be telling you the wrong info.Setting up a RAID 0 System?
Download u torrent, then go to one of the torrent sites like mininova. and download acronis partition manager. Then try to extend the partition.. You may even be able to do it within windows using disk management. It is found in the control panel. In administrative tools. Right click on the partition and look for the option extend partition.Setting up a RAID 0 System?
You will need to set RAID level to 0 to have it read both disk.

well, that means that u have to backup your data and after that reformat your laptop...as far as i know, there is no difference. if your CD-writer or DVD - writer or whatever u have is not the primary boot u should enter the bios and put it in that position after that beginning the installationyou should follow the advices within the OS CD`s/manual

one more tip : don`t choose fast format or whatever sounds like that cause it will cause you trouble within time

    anyway, ensure your data first

My hidden folders are turning into protected operating system files. How do I change them back to normal?

I am using Windows XP. Some of the folders that I have hidden, which were certainly not operating system files when I first downloaded them, have for some reason turned into protected files. Now I am unable to delete them. Anyone know of some procedure or a program that might be able to change them back?My hidden folders are turning into protected operating system files. How do I change them back to normal?
Yes,maybe it is infected by some viruses.

I met a virus, which have my some folders hidden, and made some fakery folders so as to misleading me.

I think some viruses often change windows registry or some system setting,so,I use registry guarder, antivirus tool.

If you have no idea to change it back manually, you should try some tools.

Give you a tool, I am using now.My hidden folders are turning into protected operating system files. How do I change them back to normal?
The show hidden files and folders isnot working at all. If Iselected the radio button “Show hidden files and folders”, and then press Ok .. the changes would just disappear upon opening the dialog again. It was probably some virus attack after which the Windows registry was not being updated properly. So here is what I did to restore it back.

Is it posibble to change the language in the operating system?

I was wondering if is it possible to change the language in the operating system from english to other. If it's possible how can I do this. I have windows XP, home edition. Is it posibble to change the language in the operating system?
In order to change from the default installed language on Windows, you'll need to get the language packs. Unfortunately, they don't work on XP Home (professional or corporate editions only). Plus, Microsoft doesn't sell them, you can only get them if you're a bulk customer (large corporations, universities, etc.) or if you have an active MSDN subscription (easily over $1000/yr), when they'll send them to you in the regular sets of software CDs that they send MSDN subscribers.

One thing you can do regardless of your version of XP is change your keyboard mapping to a foreign language so that you can type in whatever language you want to. I've included a link to a brief description of how to do this in my source list.

I know for a fact that Macs don't have this problem, as I typically switch my interface (menus, etc.) between English, Spanish and German depending upon what I'm doing. Is it posibble to change the language in the operating system?

Yes, there are language packs available that will change many aspects of the OS to your chosen language. I believe some are included in the default install like, english and spanish others need to be purchased.

    You can do this anytime.

This is Malware, deeply rooting itself in your system (some even hide in your router's firmware). Virus scanners and the Restore Point Utility are not good things to use against such invasion for this reason alone.

Get the programs I listed from another computer (Internet Caf茅, Public Library or friend's computer) onto a USB stick as Malware blocks you from downloading protection. A word of caution, be sure to read all programs help files completely before using them. If you still cannot use MBAM, rename it Alteregobytes to confuse the Malware (but be sure to keep the .exe extension on it) and use it as alternative for part A of the following solution.

Trying MBAM alone is not enough as you need a COMPLETE solution, here is one (use programs in the order stated):

    A) Download MBAM (MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware): http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant - Install the application and make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish ( If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version ).

Once the program has loaded, select %26quot;Perform Quick Scan%26quot;, then click Scan ( The scan may take some time,so please be patient ). When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected ( When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart ).

    B) Try the tricks and free programs I use: 1) Clean browsers junk.

Method One (now): In Internet Explorer (IE), click the Tools menu, then Delete Browsing History and in the box, click the Delete all button (bottom left) and Yes.

In Firefox (FF), go to tools, clear private data, make sure all boxes are checked and then click on the clear private data now button.

Method Two (Normal use: Every 14 days - Heavy use: Every 7 days): In IE, click the Tools menu, Delete Browsing History and in the box that opens, do these: a) click the button near Temporary Internet Files, click Yes and wait for the box that opens to close.

    b) click the button near History, click Yes and wait for the box that opens to close and finally, click the close button (bottom right) to finish.

In FF, Go to tools, clear private data and uncheck all except Browsing History, Cache and Authenticated Sessions boxes then click on the clear private data now button.

Note: Close browser when done to clear cookies still in memory. For other browsers or versions of the programs, check help files for guidance on doing cleanup.

    2) Turn off the restore point utility ( Guide for XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405 and Vista: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows )

    3) Use this free cleaner: http://www.glaryutilities.com/gu.html to remove junk and remnants files.

    4) put order in your HD with a %26quot;Disk defragmenter%26quot;.

    5) Turn restore point utility back on. (see part 2)

    6) Do not use Google/Yahoo toolbars (spyware).

    7) Persisting problem after this, get Avira: http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Pe plus an Email scanner ( http://www.spamdel.com/ OR http://www.glenn.delahoy.com/software/fi ). Already have a scanner, make sure your virus database is updated BUT stay away from (or get rid of) AVG free (CRAP).

    8) If the problem is very stubborn and you have a router, visit its web site and check for firmware that is more recent than your version. If FOUND, download and install, if NOT, use the router's reset switch, both methods return it to factory settings. %26quot;WARNING%26quot;: Gather router install CDs, guides, passwords before doing this as you will need to do all connections again.

You will need to boot from your original cd, select install, and at the window showing you your current partition select the D option to delete the partition. Then use the C option to create a new one to load on. This will lose ALL your files, so do a backup first.

Sounds like a pirate copy of Microsoft Windows. Here is how to tell:

    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howto

There are plenty of ways to upgrade to Ubuntu - even without a CD drive!

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Instal

Ubuntu comes with pretty much everything you need, and if there is something you need that isn't pre-install, then its a simply case of clicking %26quot;Add/Remove%26quot; and selecting from the list!

http://www.zolved.com/UserFiles/Image/UbHow does one change from a Microsoft operating system to another like Ubunty Linux?
    Hello Elric,

(ANS) If a disk is stuck in a CD drive unit I found a little trick that works!!

No.1 Take a close look at the front of the CD or DVD drive unit, on the front panel if you look closely you should spot a tiny (yes! very small indeed) hole. The hole is no bigger than the tip of a ball point pen nib. Take a pin or the end of a paper clip and push this into the tiny hole and this should force open the disk tray %26amp; CD disk thats been stuck. Reboot the machine once the disk is removed and the drive should be OK after that.

No.2 You can download a free copy Ubuntu Linux from the Canonical website

    SEE: http://www.ubuntu.com

No.3 Download the Ubuntu ISO image file (its quite large I seem to recall about 700megs) and once downloaded you must burn this ISO file onto a CD disk.

No.4 The Ubuntu ISO image once burnt to a CD then becomes boot-able, You can even load Ubuntu from the CD disk without installing it. Meaning you can see what your getting BEFORE you install the Linux OS itself.

**YES! If you want to move away from Microsoft products due to cost, or being locked into EULA, etc, etc. You will need to reformat the hard disk drive and thus wipe any previous OS before installing Ubuntu Linux onto the system.

**In years gone by Linux didn't have as many viable major applications in contrast to Microsoft %26amp; Windows but that is almost no longer the case. There are many many more applications for Linux than ever before. Linux has much to recommend it as well as being almost free of costs in the financial sense.

    Hope that helps?

Kind Regards IvanHow does one change from a Microsoft operating system to another like Ubunty Linux?
Cant help on that one Elric...Im a muppet with computers....Ubunty Linux....sounds like a name for a Pole Dancer...lolHow does one change from a Microsoft operating system to another like Ubunty Linux?
If you go to the Canonical website you can order a free copy of Ubuntu to be posted to your home free of charge. Useful if you've only got dial up.

I prefer PCLinuxOS 2007 myself which is nicer (in my opinion) and everything works 'out of the box'.

I tried Fedora 8 too but that takes quite a lot of tweaking for my purposes, though it's fantastic when you've got it just right.

The other good thing about Linux is that there are no viruses for it so you don't need an av program running! How does one change from a Microsoft operating system to another like Ubunty Linux?

I had the choice between initializing 32-bit and 64-bit when I first turned on my computer after buying it. But I didn't know which one to choose, so I chose 32-bit. yeah what %26quot;mister awesome%26quot; said, also you gotta check if you have 64bit compatible CPUHow do I change my Windows Vista operating system from 32-bit to 64-bit?
You'll have to reinstall. You should have the ability to make a Vista DVD (or two) from where your manufacturer put it (look in accessories) and then reinstall. You might be able to get away with an %26quot;upgrade%26quot;. Either way, there is not a magic switch. You'll have to do a full install. 64 bit OS's are completely different than 32 bit in regards to drivers, etc....How do I change my Windows Vista operating system from 32-bit to 64-bit?
If you had the choice, then I imagine that your system is 64-bit compatible. Nice. Just reinstall the OS and this time select the 64-bit option.

Only problem with 64-bit is that there aren't a lot of applications that have made it that far yet. Maybe some games, designing software... that sort of high level stuff, but day to day apps... not so many.

Have fun with it... Good Luck!

    my linux version is 0.97-29Ubuntu4

pls pls can NE give me some help in detail..,, i really appreciate u.,, hope i get a good answerHow to change the booting sequence of the operating systems?
    Alright mate,

%26quot;Can't open file to write%26quot; means that you aren't working with admin privileges.

Are you sure you typed %26quot;sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst%26quot;? (the sudo part is important).

Oh, and by the way, I see you are trying to open menu.1st. Is that a typo? The file is menu.lst (l as in linux).

Anyway, try it another way (this will work presuming you are using Ubuntu):

Open a shell (Applications -%26gt; Accessories -%26gt; Terminal).

Type %26quot;sudo bash%26quot; (without the quotes).

    Enter your password.

Type %26quot;gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst%26quot; (also without quotes). Try copy and pasting this line.

Change the default from 0 to 1.

Save the file (either using the save icon or Ctrl+S).

    Reboot.

That should solve everything. You can also set the time that Grub displays until the default is booted, the colours of the menu etc.

Send me a mail if that doesn't work.

P.S. If you are more comfortable using the file manager Nautilus, try launching that with admin rights.

To do this open a shell as described above, type %26quot;sudo nautilus%26quot;, enter your password.

  • How do you change a vista home basic operating system to Linux Ubuntu?

Right now i am running vista home basic 32bit and i have been playing around with virtual pc and using other operating systems like Linux ubuntu. And i really like it so i was wondering how do i switch my os from vista to ubuntu and if you think its worth it.

Thx For The Help in Advance! How do you change a vista home basic operating system to Linux Ubuntu?
You can install Ubuntu 9.04 within windows using Wubi installer

    http://wubi-installer.org/

You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application.

Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.

    Help changing operating system?

Hello, I'm havin' some trouble, I've got an old-ish laptop runnin' windows xp. I've got a copy of 'tiny xp' that I want to install instead. My problem is that I can't seem to format the hard drive. How do I go about it, I mean i know you can go into windows explorer and format it that way, but it refuses to work and I can't figure out why(probably because its runnin at the time!LOL!) Any ideas?!?!?Help changing operating system?
I'm thinking that in fact a re-install of XP would be better than TinyXP

In most cases, tinyxp isnt all that great to actually use. Fine to boot from, load now and again so that for example you can format your c: drive when it is not being used (why you cant format it, yes)

You'll find the majority of actually useful things are missing, namely networking is often not included, making the OS useless in most cases.

I ran it for a while but got annoyed that I'd have to hack it even more to get things such as MS office to even install, among a million other little things.

Just a fresh install will probably speed it up a lot especially if it's really old,

Whichever you put on, you need it on CD; can't install XP from a hard drive unless over a network on a prepared computer and prepared install made with sysprep.

As above, make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CD before the hard drive else it won't notice that it has a bootable CD

Also note that anything on it will be wiped.....

When in windows setup, rather than bothering to wait for a full format, just delete the existing partition and create a new one, done instantly rather than waiting (old data is there but has no map to it...can be recovered but will just get overwritten over time as you install windows and other junk) You can still recover things even when they have been fully formatted so it's just a quickie shortcut :)Help changing operating system?
boot off teh CD/DVD or the floppy disk, then format C:

and youre correct, it cannot alter or modify files while theyre open...

and BEWARE... if you format youll aslo need the motherboard drivers, or youll have no network, or sound...Help changing operating system?
Try with Windows bootable cd, like when you install a new os eg XP, you got an option to format your drive. I did this way many times, n i hope it wil work with you too.

    Thanks!Help changing operating system?
first make sure that you have set your BIOS to boot from the cd drive first!

to do this you press DEL, F2 or F10 depending on your laptop at the beginning of the booting sequence. after the BIOS are set, insert the cd on your drive, boot the pc and when you see on the screen %26quot;Press any key to boot from cd:....%26quot; press any key..

follow the instructions!Help changing operating system?
the best way i know is to download partition management tool like Acronis Disk Director Suite and make a rescue CD that is bootable .

you can download it from here :

    http://www.acronis.eu/homecomputing/down

also you can just insert the windows CD and open the computer .. boot from the CD .. pretend that you are gonna install the new system on the same partition the old system is on .. until the setup asks you if you want to format the installation partition ... do it :)

    Good Luck !

How do I change the order of operating systems on my boot loader?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and Linux Mint Gloria Main. Currently, Vista is the first choice, but I want to switch them. How do I do this? How do I change the order of operating systems on my boot loader?
Grub uses either /boot/grub/menu.lst or /boot/grub/grub.conf to decide that sort of thing. It's usually a text file and it generally accesses menu.lst but on Gentoo for example that's just a link to grub.conf. So do an ls -lt /boot/grub/menu.lst and if it's not a link open it in a text editor (using sudo or gksudo) and change the boot order in the file.

For lilo it is stored in /etc/lilo.conf. Again that is a text editor so just edit it to change the order. Once you finish though, there is one more step. Type %26quot;lilo%26quot; after you close it and before you reboot. This will tell the boot loader to use the new configuration file.

Depending on your boot loader you should be able to get lots of information by opening a terminal and typing either %26quot;info grub%26quot; which calls up the manual for using grub and making it do what you want to, or %26quot;man lilo%26quot; which gives you a good description of lilo. Well, you might. It depends whether the manufacturer have XP drivers for that specific model that you want to buy. If they don't then you're out of luck

So if you have in mind what you want to buy, get the model number, then go to the vendor site and try to find out if they have drivers for XPThis may sound stupid but is it possible to change the Operating System on a computer ?
lol not a stupid question since vista came out. However, they have fixed many of the issues that were there since it first came out. But yeah you should be able to...This may sound stupid but is it possible to change the Operating System on a computer ?

  • How do I stop my Drive letters changing across Operating Systems?

I'm currently running Windows Vista (Home Premium) and Windows 7 (Ultimate, build 7000). I have split my laptop hard drive leaving my Vista Partition, and creating a new one for Windows 7. I have installed Win7 all well and good, however when I use Vista my vista partition appears as Drive C: and the Seven Drive D:. Whereas under Win7, the Windows 7 System Drive is given the letter C: and Vista (which was previously unassigned; hence I assigned it random V:).

How can I make it so they keep the same drive letter association across both OS's? I would like Vista to be drive C: and Seven to be (well frankly anything else within reason) as long as it's consistent.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

the primary hard drive of your computer is always labeled c

although you can change this, it is not suggested as it will invalidate all references to to the C drive, including those that are made by your operating system

HOW DO I CHANGE MY OPERATING SYSTEM?

Ok, so I got this really annoying virus cleaner, so I was scanning (the cleaner wasn't one from the Internet, it was malware bytes), ok so when it finished it shut down my computer then when it came back up it said NTLDR is missing... Ok, so I was sick of XP so I downloaded Linux, now I try to boot it, it won't do anything!!! IT JUST KEEPS SAYING NTLDR IS MISSING, so I wanted to format the drive so I can start new then it wont boot the usb so I'm stuck HELP!!!!! I need it for a project!HOW DO I CHANGE MY OPERATING SYSTEM?
If you haven't already done so, you need to enter BIOS and change the boot order, giving the USB device a higher priority than your HD (assuming your computer supports booting from a USB device). If you're unsure how to do it, keep an eye on your screen as you power on -- it may tell you which F-keys to press. You can go the trial and error route if it doesn't, or do a quick Google search for %26quot;enter BIOS $manufacturer%26quot; (replacing $manufacturer with.... your computer's manufacturer).

If you've changed the boot order, how did you create the USB? You may want to retry, using http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ and selecting a distro and version in the list, as opposed to selecting your own ISO, or at least double check any guide you followed to make sure you did everything you needed to to make the device bootable. You can also try burning a CD instead.

NTLDR is an easy fix. If you don't have an XP disc that contains the Admin console, you can download it online. I think it's still available on Microsoft's site, and if not, there are legitimate third party sites where it can probably be found, or if you have access to another 2K or XP box, you can follow this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301680/

Just pointing that out because I'm not sure if you're familiar with Linux or not. If you haven't used it, you may want to consider fixing your XP bootloader, and setting up a dualboot instead of plunging in head first.HOW DO I CHANGE MY OPERATING SYSTEM?
download ubuntu installer disc. It is a free implementation of linux and it allows you to partition the drive right in the installer. Just download the .iso, burn to disc, and boot from itHOW DO I CHANGE MY OPERATING SYSTEM?

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000HOW DO I CHANGE MY OPERATING SYSTEM?
Thats a huge problem you got there! You need to purchase something like XP or Vista at your local walmart! and sorry 2 say! XP is not the problem! I have been using XP since it came out, And im using the computer it came on when it first came out. YOu have to be very careful about what virus scans you use and connect to. Alot of virsu scans have been contained or contaminated with viruses, Exspecially the newest ones. But anyway, Please email me at jet_slc@yahoo.com with every single detail, weither you think it is important or not! for more informationHOW DO I CHANGE MY OPERATING SYSTEM?
You need to go into BIOS settings and make sure the CD drive is first in the boot list. Do you know what you're doing when it comes to booting linux? You can't just download linux and boot from it. You have to make a bootable CD. Burn the .iso image to a cd with ImgBurn Or Nero or something. Then put it in the computer and turn it on.

Changing Operating System w/o losing data?

I know how to downgrade OS and I want to downgrade since Vista sucks

Anyway i want to downgrade but I don't want to lose data

How can i not lose data when i downgrade the OS?Changing Operating System w/o losing data?
Backup, or copy all your data files onto a CD/DVD or external hard drive or flash drive!Changing Operating System w/o losing data?
Move the information to a new partition on your hard drive. Then when you change the OS, just format the partition without your information and install.Changing Operating System w/o losing data?
Here's a cool way to do just that:

    1. Move everything you want to save into a folder on the c:\ root eg. c:\saved files

    2. Download an Ubuntu Linux live CD/install CD. This will allow you to boot to Linux from the CD. Once loaded load your hard drive and delete everything on the drive except c:\saved files. Reboot

    3. Load the Windows XP cd. It might tell you that there is already a version of windows installed but continue anyways. DO NOT REFORMAT. You should be able to install on the existing partition.

    4. Once done you'll be running XP and c:\savefiles will still be there.

How do I Change from Vista to XP?

Is it easy to change my operating system from Vista to XP?How do I Change from Vista to XP?
having just done the change it is easy.just backup everything you need to keep to disc or external hard drive. as for the comments from the gentleman about vista. what the customer wanted was a small compact working os not atank and resource hog. vista is on par with millenium. windows 7 is more stable now at milestone 3 than vista with sp2 in.it tells you somthing though xp has been around for 7 years and will be supported until 2012. vista has only been around for 18 months and microsoft are replacing it. WHY/How do I Change from Vista to XP?
DESTROY VISTA PLEASE%26lt; WORST OS EVER MADE TO DATEHow do I Change from Vista to XP?
If you have a genuine xp disc, back everything up onto an external hard drive or some other form of external media, and pop the disc in, and install xp.

Otherwise go buy an xp disc :)How do I Change from Vista to XP?
Its easy. You can either download XP from the official Microsoft website or install it using an original XP CD. However, it is not a very bright idea to replace Vista because it is useful once you know its features. If you do not use your computer's performance to the max, then XP is probably a better optionHow do I Change from Vista to XP?
why install an out dated os vista is far better than xp and yes you will have problems after down grading

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,228How do I Change from Vista to XP?
    Isn't it funny how some companies can't win? Microsoft followed Customer feedback and US Legislation to create Vista, and now all of a sudden, their Customer base are screaming at them for doing what they wanted! %26gt;SIGH%26lt;

In any case, almost without exception, every single complaint and objection to Vista was also raised when XP was introduced! (And, I can give a 100% guarantee that they will be heard after Windows 7's official launch! After all, it's not Microslut's fault your 15 year old printer no longer works, it's the printer manufacturer's way of forcing you to buy their newest product, since they do have the new OS drivers for it!)

    In any case...

Now, depending on several possible circumstances, switching back to XP could technically be verboton on your computer. (Involving OEMs and upgrades.) But, I will presume that it is not the issue. Insert an XP OS disk (you can buy one with a new license for about $300-$400 in most stores, and as little as $25-$50 if you don't mind violating the law. From the right on-line stores, you can probably find a legal copy of XP Pro for about $100.)

Next, insert disk in drive, and follow the instructions to FORMAT your HDD.

Good Luck! How do I Change from Vista to XP?
if you have a sata hard drive all new vista laptops have this its imposable to install xp on a sata hard drive.

all other hard drives you can.

but you will have a lot of problems so stay with vista.

    vista is fine.

Even without buying and installing the french version of office, you can still add the fench dictionary and grammar checker from you english version CD. It will then normally recognise which language you're writing something in and check it accordingly. You can set the check manually as well if you want, for the whole document or for specific words or phrases if you doing a document containing both.

How to remove or change default operating system?

I'll keep this simple, let me know if you need more detail. I loaned a friend my laptop, Compaq Presario V2000. It had Windows XP Home on it. This dumb @*%26amp; installed a registered copy of Windows Vista in addition to the XP.

Now, since this Vista was already registered, Microsoft has shut down both computers and he gives me my laptop back!!!

How to change computer operating system from 32 Bits to 64 Bits?

I bought a new computer and I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 onto it (free from microsoft.com).

My computer is capable of running 64 bits however i do not know how to do this, does the monitor affect if you can change it from 32 bits to 64 bits?

does 1gb of video memory require 64 bits to run?

does 4gb ram also require 64 bits to run?

those were my 3 questions and here is a simple idea of what my computer is like:

    4GB RAM

NIVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT (at the moment it says VGA memory 512mb)

CPU: AMD Atholon (tm) 64 X2 dual core 2.7 GHz (i have 2 CPUs)

    COMPUTER: ACPI x64 based PC

MONITOR: Generic PnP Monitor (My monitor is old and crap until i buy a new one soon)

HARD DRIVE: 500gb S.A.T.AHow to change computer operating system from 32 Bits to 64 Bits?
You can run more than 1GB of video memory on a 32 bit operating system, but you cant run much more than 3gb of ram.

no, the monitor has no effect on that at all.

To get 64 bit, you have to buy a 64 bit version of windows, or if you have a copy that says it has both, you have to do a fresh install of the operating system, and when it asks if you want x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) you choose the x64.How to change computer operating system from 32 Bits to 64 Bits?
32 bit color is the best you can get. That has nothing to do with the bits of the operating system.

And yes, your videocard is a 512mb card, but you have another 1700 or so in virtual memory from your ram.

    you'll need to install Windows-7 64-bit version.

if your processor supports 64-bit, everything else will workHow to change computer operating system from 32 Bits to 64 Bits?
you will need to install a 64 bit operating system. To do this, you will need a copy of the 64 bit version of whichever operating system you are installing (for example I am installing Vista 64 bit tonight onto a computer I am building.

The monitor should not affect the change.

The amount of RAM that is used is dependant on the operating system. a 32 bit system will only recognize 3.5 to 4 gigs of ram (even if you have 8 gigs installed onto your mother board. A 64 bit system can handle much more ram, though most current motherboards max out at either 8 or 16 gigs of ram (which is overkill anyway. Unless you are a hard core graphics designer you will never need that much RAM, even 8 gigs starts to put you going %26quot;above and beyond%26quot;.How to change computer operating system from 32 Bits to 64 Bits?
